Is a PonyCycle® suitable for a 3-year-old?
Yes. Size 3 is designed for children ages 3 to 4. Every ride-on toy is tested to meet ASTM F963 and EN 71 safety standards and includes a stable base, hand brake, and one-way wheel that prevents backward rolling. Adult supervision is recommended.
Can a 3-year-old ride a PonyCycle® independently?
With adult supervision, many children can power and steer it themselves once they can comfortably reach the stirrups, hold the handlebars, and use the brake. The child creates the movement through a gentle up-and-down riding motion.
What should parents check before the first ride?
Confirm that the child can sit comfortably in the saddle, place both feet on the stirrups, turn the handlebars, and reach the brake. Begin on a flat, smooth surface with plenty of clear space, and stay nearby while the child learns the movement.
What if my child cannot comfortably reach the stirrups?
Choose by height and inseam rather than age alone, using our size guide . The child should be able to reach the stirrups, steer, and use the brake comfortably, so do not size up only to create extra room to grow. Contact PonyCycle® support before purchasing if the child is between sizes.
What size should I choose for a 4-year-old?
Size 4 is typically the best fit for a 4-year-old based on age and weight. However, children grow at different rates. Size 3 (up to 55 lbs) may feel more comfortable at first for a smaller child, while Size 4 (up to 88 lbs) provides more room to grow. Height and inseam should help make the final decision.
